I just wanted to let you know that I have really enjoyed the classes you taught as well as the book that you've written (the oxford handbook of medical statistics). I found the book a breath of fresh air when revising for my exams- the explanations so clear and concise, straight to the point. Statistics really do make sense when explained like this. About the Author

Janet Peacock is Professor of Medical Statistics in the Department of Public Health Sciences and Medical Statistics, University of Southampton School of Medicine, where she leads the discipline of Medical Statistics.
She previously worked for over 20 years at St George's University of London. There she worked with Martin Bland and Sally Kerry with whom she has co-authored two books, Statistical Questions in Evidence-based Medicine (with Martin Bland) and Presenting Medical Statistics from proposal to publication (with Sally Kerry). She has always been enthusiastic about teaching medical statistics to medical students, doctors, and other health professionals, and is passionate about communicating the subject clearly. During her career to date she has collaborated with a wide range of health professionals in numerous epidemiological studies, randomised controlled trials and meta-analyses.


Phil qualified in medicine at Bristol in 2007 and is currently working as an Academic Clinical Fellow at the University of Bristol alongside specialty training in paediatrics within the Severn Deanery. He has been involved in research projects both as an undergraduate and since qualifying, and has produced several publications. Phil enjoys combining medical research with clinical practice, and is keen to help others understand and get involved with the research process.

Great handbook

The authors managed to include amazingly large amount of important material in this little handbook. The book covers a wide variety of statistical procedures. Perhaps the best review book out there. Great job.

Well targeted to medical practitioners

I had one undergraduate course in stochastic modeling and another in data mining. Basically, anyone with a course or two in statistics for non-math majors can directly apply what they learned to bio-medicine with the help of this book. Although ostensibly aimed at practicing physicians, as a healthcare IT person, I found this book helpful. I use it as if I were using a recipe book.
